The Ukrainian Emerging Leaders Program is a 10-month fellowship at Stanford University for experienced Ukrainian politicians, practitioners, and leaders of public organizations who will contribute to the country’s reforms. The program was founded in 2016 by the Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law at Stanford’s Freeman Spogli Institute together with Oleksandr and Kateryna Akymenko (Stanford John S. Knight fellows). The UELP was founded with the support of donor partners, and in 2021, Parimatch Tech has become the program’s eighth donor for the next three years.
“As a company established in Ukraine and investing in the potential of our homeland, we understand the importance of supporting democratic and intellectual initiatives, developing talents and leaders. For us, participation in the UELP project is not only an opportunity to invest in the future of our country but also a possibility to be a part of positive changes.” — Maksym Liashko, co-CEO of Parimatch Tech, commented on the partnership.
The program provides a unique opportunity for three Ukrainian policy-makers, lawyers, entrepreneurs, or leaders of civil society organizations to attend classes at one of the world’s leading research universities. The Ukrainian Emerging Leaders Program aims to strengthen the leadership and academic base of the fellows with the support of leading faculty at Stanford University. Fellows will attend classes and courses, become part of the community, participate in events, and get acquainted with the organization of Silicon Valley companies.
After a hiatus in 2020, the fourth group of new leaders from Ukraine began training at Stanford in 2021. Yulia Bezvershenko, Denis Gutenko, and Nariman Ustaev became UELP 2021 scholars.
